Chances are you have heard “We are entering the Age of Aquarius”.

What this refers to is one of the most important pieces of knowledge handed down to us through Astrology.

Astrology is the science of interpreting the movements of the Heavens. Astrology is one of the oldest, if not the oldest science. Through observation of Heavenly movement the ancients came to understand that when certain celestial objects were in certain positions, particular manifestations in the physical world could be expected.

One of the greatest and most mind-boggling discoveries that the ancients made through astronomy / astrology is that approximately every 26,000 years the Night Sky makes a complete loop around the Zodiac. The ancients associated particular “Ages” with this circuit through the loop of the Zodiac.

The Ancient’s related the Earth’s “Age” (position relative to the Zodiac in the 26,000 year cycle) with particular levels or types of Global Consciousness.

The Ancients used the Spring Equinox to determine the “Current Age” of the Planet. At dawn on the Spring Equinox (or Vernal Equinox) the Sun rises in the constellation of the planet’s current Age… As of today we are leaving Pisces and entering Aquarius.

“Greek, Hindu, Persian, Egyptian, Chaldean, Hebrew, Christian and Chinese astronomers / astrologers all acknowledge and track the passage of The Great Year through the Zodiac. And yes, the zodiac is recognized worldwide with nearly identical symbolism attributed to the various animals.”

It takes about 2150 years for the Earth to travel through each Age of The Great Year. The appearance of Jesus Christ and His Message, signified the start of the Age of Pisces. 2000 years later we are on the verge of entering the next age: The Age of Aquarius.

The physical reality of The Great Year is the observable movement of the Night Sky over very long periods of time. The astronomical / technical term for this phenomena is “precession”.

But the Ancients had a lot more to say about The Great Year than the simple Astronomical reality of it… The Ancients claim that:

Movement through the Great Year Cycle is what is responsible for the Rise and Fall of Civilization!

A common myth among all Ancient Peoples worldwide is that long ago all of humanity enjoyed life in a virtual Paradise.

The Greeks and Vedic (Hindu) cultures called this time The Golden Age. Christian / Hebrew / Islamic tradition calls this Eden. Indigenous cultures speak of the golden past of their ancestors. The myth of a past “perfection” of living appears to be Universal.

Alongside most of these myths are two additional references: that of “The Fall” at a particular time in the past, and that of a coming “Redemption”.

In the traditions that kept the concept of The Great Year most alive, “The Fall” and “The Redemption” of Humanity is directly linked with the Great Cycles of Time.

The Ancient Greek and the Hindu/Vedic traditions have left behind the most knowledge of The Great Year. Both of these traditions agree in where they place us in time right now… and both tell us that we are on the cusp of “turning the corner” and heading back toward a Future Golden Age.

When I think about the Mayan Calendar’s “End Date”… I think about The Great Year. And when I put those two together, I understand exactly what the Mayan’s were pointing at with their “End of The World”… They were pointing at the transition point from the energetics of one Age to the energetics of The Next Age.

…and the Mayans and many other cultures called the coming Age: “The Fifth World”
